♦ Michael Wayne Brooker, Jr., 28, a felon with outstanding warrants living at 318 Cedar Street in Salisbury, was cruising the streets of Salisbury just after midnight Sunday morning when the police pulled him over in the 300 block of MLK, Jr. for not displaying a license tag. It was all downhill for Brooker from the moment he allegedly told officers he recently purchased the car and was displaying a temporary paper tag in the rear window. The police noted a bottle of an liquor on the floorboard and after a records check it came up that Brooker’s driver’s license was suspended and that he was wanted for two outstanding felony warrants. A closer inspection of the car revealed 3 grams of heroin and 2 TVs. Over $650 was found on Brooker’s person. Out came the handcuffs.
After being handcuffed and the police began patting him down, Brooker abruptly felt inspired to bolt. Brooker sprinted several blocks through backyards and across lawns before he came to a patch of weeds weeds and crashed through a small wooden fence. The police in pursuit tazed Brooker who continued to resist until he was overwhelmed.
Booker was charged with resist/delay/obstruct a public officer (misdemeanor), probation violation (misdemeanor), possession of control substance schedule I (felony), failure to appear/comply (misdemeanor).
