♦ Charles Mangum Broughton, 43, of the 1100 block of Leonard Road in Rowan County, was arrested Saturday at 3565 Long Ferry Road for the December 10th armed robbery of the Village Grocery in Franklin Township. $1,300 was taken during the robbery.
Broughton was charged with robbery with firearms/other dangerous weapons (felony).
Broughton, under a secured $75,000 bond, was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center.
He will have a hearing on Monday December 28th.

“Thursday around 8 p.m. a lone white male, brandishing a shotgun and wearing a mask, held up the Village Grocery and Garden Shop at 4450 Hwy. 601 in Franklin Township outside of Salisbury. The robber allegedly got an undisclosed amount of cash from the register and fled the grocery on foot. No one was injured during the robbery.
The robber is described as a white male in his mid 40’s with a stocky build approximately between 5″8′ and 5″10′. Has salt and pepper ear length hair and facial stubble. Surveillance stills show the suspect wearing a dark green hoodie shirt, dark pants, a dark bandanna mask covering mouth and nose, a welders head covering, and sunglasses.
Robber said to drive a small black or dark colored pickup truck to the grocery. The vehicle resembles a small Chevvy S-10 or a Ford Ranger or a Mazda like small pickup. Has a squared shape rather than a round one.
