♦To the Editor,
I thought it gracious of Ms. Jones’s to send a kind communication to Jim Sides, Craig Pierce, Gary Page, and Carolyn Barger for their recent help…until
I quote Ms. Jones: “Two weeks ago I asked for details regarding the purchase of the Salisbury Mall property; today, I express my sincere appreciation for your responses, and particularly to the Chair, Vice Chair, and County Manager for meeting in person to provide information. I wish to publically thank Mrs. Carolyn Barger, Board Clerk, for gathering all available documents and seeing to their posting on the County Government website.
After reviewing documents & info you shared, I – as promised – shared with my colleague citizens of Rowan County. Today, I share more than 400 citizen responses gathered over the past week alone.
Clearly, statutes give you the right to proceed with capital improvements and you bid in accordance with pre-determined expenditure needs. You also confirmed the project is a “leap-of-faith”, requiring 3-to-4 years before we will know how best to proceed past our immediate needs.”
Ms. Jones 400 signatures from 400 misinformed persons means little to the overwhelming majority of the county. I doubt it would influence anyone in public office anywhere, least of all Rowan County. I suggest you get outside the insulated bubble of Salisbury and meet the county. They LOVE our three stand up commissioners. Their record is impeccable.
The county has little time for Salisbury who made itself overly dependent on county taxpayers. In the 2014 election the county will annihilate any candidates that Salisbury wants to offer up for sacrifice. There are many more people living in the county and they want Salisbury off their backs.
Ms. Jones your little caboose flew off the track when you said: “State Statutes require you to assume fiduciary responsibility for all citizens of this County. But, DO NOT interpret this as license to ignore the citizens who elect you. We give you no right to use our resources for any “leap-of-faith” without appropriate planning. Here (handing-over Petition) is input from citizens of Faith, Cleveland, Spencer, China Grove, Landis, and even Salisbury, many of whom added words more succinct than any I can summon.”
Ms. Jones you make quite an assumption that the County Commissioners ignore the citizens who elected them. The people out here in the county know for a fact Jim, Craig, and Mike stood up for them and said NO to 329 S. Main. They will purchase a Mall for at great savings. The county voted for them in 2012. They will return all those men is 2014.
The gridlock will end in 2014 with a sweep. Salisbury needs to take its place at the end of the line–they can’t lead themselves, let alone the county.
Instead of carping about the county and wasting your time on 400 signatures–maybe you should rescue Salisbury before it bellies up.
