♦ The hunt for sex offender William Arthur Sturgeon, 42, by the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit, the NC SBI, and the Salisbury Police ended Monday when this joint law enforcement effort raided Sturgeon’s hideout at the Motel 8 on 925 Bendix Drive in Salisbury.
Sturgeon was on the run for the last 3 months from the Iredell County Sheriff’s office for failing to register as a sex offender and tips had placed him in the Salisbury area. What made Sturgeon difficult to find was his dramatic change in appearance–he cut his shoulder length hair and grew out his beard.
After his arrest Sturgeon was charged with failure to register as a sex offender (felony) and was turned over to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. Currently he is being held in jail in Statesville under a secured $75,000 bond.
Sturgeon’s original conviction as a sex offender occurred in Iowa back in 1995. He lived in Rowan County over the years in Salisbury, Woodleaf, and Rockwell and spent time in Mocksville and Statesville.
