♦ Early this morning the Rowan Free Press learned that a number of convenience stores across Salisbury were being raided by A.L.E. and local law enforcement. It was all apart of a statewide A.L.E. crackdown on electronic gaming devices. It’s said some 150 convenience stores and filling station marts were visited across the state, including the Pop Shoppe on West Innes Street and Statesville Blvd. in Salisbury as well as others around the city. Unmarked state vehicles, Police cars, and Sheriff Office vehicles wheeled into lots, doors slammed, and warrants were flashed to startled employees. Electronic gaming devices were wheeled out the door. These same scenes were happening allover North Carolina Thursday morning.
N.C. statutes read “Any person or organization that operates any game of chance or any person who plays at or bets on any game of chance at which any money, property or other things of value is bet, whether the same be in stake or not, shall be guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor.”
It’s expected that a large number of convenience store owners and managers will be showing up in court all across North Carolina.
