♦ More bad news from Salisbury City Council on Tuesday evening. Salisbury City Manager Lane Bailey revealed to the council that the city estimated Fibrant did a “big gulp” from the general fund to the tune of $3.5 million dollars for the current fiscal year. Next fiscal year the city hopes to reduce Fibrant’s general fund gulp to $2.9 million dollars.
City Manager Bailey also put forth his recommendations for a 1.2-cent increase in property taxes for the 2016-2017 fiscal year. Bailey claimed the property tax rise was due the loss privilege license tax last year for the current fiscal year and from significant increases in health insurance and workers compensation insurance this year.
If you didn’t think the Fibrant Debacle losses were enough bad news, the City property taxes and water and sewer are going up. Cover your eyes because you are about to get a 20% increase in the commercial stormwater rate allegedly for rehab projects and housing stabilization. City Council has scheduled a public hearing for the proposed budget on June 7th.
