♦At 12 pm this afternoon Senate Bill 269 “Rowan County Airport De-Annexation”, introduced by N.C Senator Andrew Brock in a lightening strike for our County Airport’s future and economic growth, sailed through the N.C Senate State & Local Committee with a unanimous vote. It now goes to the Senate floor where it is expected to pass likely next week. State Senator Gene McLaurin gave Bill 269 a favorable report. County Commission Chairman Jim Sides presented in favor of the bill while Tom Fetzer, the city’s lobbyist, spoke in opposition. Afterwards County Commission Chairman Jim sides told the RFP: “This was a great day for Rowan County. County Airport De-annexation cleared a major hurdle in Raleigh. We had great assistance from our area Senators Andrew Brock and Gene McLaurin. Andrew Brock introduced the bill and Gene McLaurin presented some excellent comments in support of the bill. He encouraged fellow committee members to support airport de-annexation.”
