♦ The Chinese Government’s city planning produces uninhabited ghost cities. These ultimate “build it and they will come” masterpieces sport shopping areas where nobody ventures. Shopkeepers in a certain North Carolina downtown area may feel an empathic connection with the ghost city shopkeepers on the other side of the globe. Oddly these empty Chinese ghost cities, with their 64 million empty apartments, pump up China’s GNP. Here national statistics trumps utility.
