Dear Ms. Cook:
I note there is an advertisement for a newspaper reporter to “dig into city government and the local business scene” here in Salisbury, North Carolina in “journalismjobs.com.” I hereby submit my resume. My body of work is well known.
I realize we have had our differences, including, but not limited to, my recent email to Boone Newspapers suggesting that you should be “mutually terminated” for the good of the “Post” as in institution and the community as a whole, however placing me in this position makes good sense for the “Salisbury Post.”
While the “Post,” ever mindful of its larger advertisers and car sales, has been loathe to actually “dig into city government”. I along with RFP editor Steve Mensing have waged a never-ending battle to ring forth the unvarnished truth about this “city of make-believe” and expose the grimy underbelly of local government and politics. A recent article concerning a shootout at Mayor Alexander’s building received over four thousand Face Book shares during the same 24 hour span when the RFP’s statistics showed a record 43K plus viewers landing on it’s esteemed pages.
Many locals, due to the “Post Online’s” plethora of pop-up ads and surveys, tell us they have abandoned your on-line site and now go to Rowan Free Press for local news. Continuous staff reductions and pressures upon surviving writers to produce more content with less staff has become painfully apparent.
While the search for “truth, justice, and the American way” through true investigative journalism may seem old fashioned and that economic pressures to turn a profit with less and less staff seems to be new fashion, I have decided to toss my hat in the ring as long as your owners know that I will not be edited to the point of placing economic concerns ahead of writing the truth and what’s real.
Please note that I can only accept this position part-time as it is far too lucrative to being a criminal defense attorney in Salisbury, North Carolina while “feeding from the carcass” of a poorly led and dying city. My resume is attached.
