I attended the Boots on the Ground Breakfast Dialogue session at the Firewater Restaurant Saturday Morning. The turnout was great with lots of passionate discussion. I spoke with one attendee after the session who suggested a future session focusing on understanding the political and civic process.
A great back and forth exchange was held on whether we should focus on the no knock warrant issue or put emphasis on reducing and eliminating crime as the answer to that concern. I suggested that the Group not focus on one singular issue but instead expand it to include the gun violence and other crime. Another attendee felt we should focus on addressing poverty as the solution to all the societal issues.
There was not a consensus on all issues discussed and I thought that was a good thing. People were passionate in their beliefs and showed passion in their responses, but the dissent was respectful.
