♦ It’s been suggested by our editor and staff members that if Salisbury ever lands a criminal justice convention that group’s first trolley tour stop in the “9th Most Dangerous City in N.C.” ought to be the Speedway Gas Station at 500 E. Innes Street. The Speedway (formerly known as the Wilco-Hess) remains one of the Bury’s epicenters of crime. Here knife and broken bottle fights break out, people are shot and carved up, become victims of sucker punch robberies, are greeted by a multitude panhandlers with “my car broke down” stories and toothless “women of the night” hunting money for a fix, or shoplifters drifting into the convenience store and trying their hand at shoplifting “Ice” malt liquor. Sometimes these folks stumble into Innes Street where they wind up matted bloodied hair on a tractor trailer bumper.

Location Speedway, 500 E. Innes Street:
The crime never stops at the Speedway, but the Police do. And they bagged alleged parole violator Jennifer Hotchkiss Saturday at 3 a.m. after chasing her down, tussling with her, and finally getting her into handcuffs for a jaunt to police HQ, the magistrates office, and finally to the Rowan County Detention Center. Home sweet home and a ham and cheese sandwich.
Hotchkiss, 28, of the streets of Salisbury, was charged with 2 counts resist/delay/obstruct public officer (misdemeanor), probation violation (misdemeanor), unauthorized use of motor vehicle (misdemeanor), and larceny (misdemeanor). Under a secure $7,500 bond, she is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center.
