♦ Salisbury City Council meets on Tuesday March 7th at 5 p.m. at city council chambers at city hall at 217 S. Main Street.

Highlight of the agenda will be the further discussion of two proposed resolutions for changing public commentary.  Both appear to be extremely unpopular with many Salisbury residents and are seen as a strategy to curtail free speech and complaints about Salisbury’s overwhelming violent crime and other major issues weighing down a city in major crisis.

The first resolution to curtail public commentary is to place public commentary for a limited 30 minute period at the start of city council meetings.  If more people desire to speak after 30 minutes they will have to wait until the very end of the meeting which may arrive up to several hours later.

The second resolution to curtail public commentary is to place public comment at the very end of city council meetings and has no time limits.

• After the council approves the consent agenda Police Chief Jerry Stokes will provide an update the city crime situation.

• City council will consider hearings on rewriting the city’s sign ordinances within the city limits and additional use standards and home occupations.

• On the consent agenda council is scheduled to allocate $2 million more toward the replacement of water meters.  The money is said to be arriving from an increase in revenue from Salisbury’s water and sewer funds.

• During City Manager Lane Bailey comments, he will speak about property where Fire Station 3 is to be relocated.
