♦ Salisbury Police sources report John W. Smith, Jr., 68, of Valley View Circle in Salisbury was the victim of a robbery–strong arm no weapon and assault–simple physical in the Food Lion parking lot on 123 Mahaley Avenue on Sunday. Chatting with a friend in the parking lot Sunday afternoon, Smith felt someone attempting to snatch his wallet and tried push the pickpocket away. The assailant swung at Smith’s face and a second robber smashed Smith hard several times in the head with a homemade sap believed fashioned from a sock and rolled up coins.
Smith, stunned by the blows, remained conscious and maintained his footing during the assault. Smith sustained minor injuries. He kept his money and fought back.
The streets and parking lots of Salisbury are dangerous for unaccompanied seniors almost any hour of the day.
He described one of his attackers as being a Black male in a maroon shirt. The suspects left the Food Lion lot in a gray four-door car possibly a Ford.

♦ Sources in the Salisbury Police inform us that Virginia Burleson, 95, living at Trinity Oaks retirement community at 820 Klumac Road, was the victim of a burglary–unlawful entry on Monday afternoon. The crime was reported to 911 dispatch at 12:55 p.m. The burglar entered the apartment and took property (Not yet disclosed) from the apartment. Ms. Burleson was thankfully not injured.
