♦ Salisbury Mayor Karen Alexander involved in a wreck Thursday at 1 p.m. at the one of the city’s most dangerous intersections for vehicular accidents: S. Fulton and W. Monroe Streets.  Alexander, driving a 2014 Hyundai northeast on S. Fulton Street, allegedly ran a red light at the intersection at W. Monroe Street and plowed into a 2002 Lexus motoring southeast on W. Monroe Street.   The collision brought neighbors out of their homes.  Salisbury Police and Fire Departments were quickly on the scene.

Alexander was reportedly injured and transported via ambulance to Novant Rowan Regional Medical Center where she was undergoing treatment. Her condition has not been released although unconfirmed reports say her injuries were not life threatening.  The driver of the Lexus, Miles Walker of Salisbury and his passenger Zaedrian Harris, also of Salisbury, were not injured.

The accident remains under investigation.

S. Fulton and W. Monroe Streets has been the scene of quite a few vehicular accidents over the years.  Traffic engineers have made several changes at the intersection.  A few years ago red flags were hung near the intersection and then later replaced.
