♦ Salisbury Police sources report that Marterius Azende “Baby 5” Robinson, 19, the King of Salisbury’s teenage car thieves, was arrested Thursday at 1431 Standish Street at 10:30 a.m. for allegedly stealing a 2007 red Ford Mustang parked behind a building at 2132 Statesville Boulevard. He allegedly was accompanied by a passenger Devonte Jamar Springs, 19. The car was left there by a father who drove his daughter’s car into work at Nationwide Insurance. He was reported to have had trouble removing the key to ignition and left the key in place. The Mustang belonged to Caroline Jones, 25, of Valentine Ct. in Salisbury. Its value was estimated a $7,000.

Robinson was charged with resist/delay/obstruct a public officer (misdemeanor), motor vehicle theft (felony), flee/elude arrest with motor vehicle (felony), possession of a stolen vehicle (felony), and parole violation. Under a secured $5,000 bond, he is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center.

According to sources, the man who parked the car on Statesville Boulevard called 911 dispatch to report the Mustang stolen. Alert officers spotted the red 2007 Mustang tooling down W. Monroe Street and attempted to pull the car over. No dice–the driver sped up with police vehicle on his tail. The driver was identified later as Marterius Azende “Baby 5” Robinson along with his passenger Devonte Jamar Springs, 19. The pair continued their high-speed flight until they pulled over and parked the car. The two quickly faded from the area.
The passenger Springs was caught up with first and gave up, allegedly identifying Robinson. Minutes later Robinson was seen walking along Standish Street where he was arrested, handcuffed, and taken into custody. The car was undamaged.
