♦ Rowan County Sheriff’s Office sources report Sunday that Sheila Nantz Godfrey’s suspicious death crime scene on 175 Lyerly Pond Road remains intact with yellow and black crime scene tape across the front yard and driveway. Rowan County Sheriff’s Office vehicles remain on the scene. As of Sunday afternoon no official announcement was made about how Ms. Godfrey died, if her death was a homicide, and if the person of interest showed up or was identified. Many veteran crime scene observers believe the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office will eventually call the suspicious death a homicide at near future press conference and provide a more detailed account of the death and investigation.

It is said that Godfrey was found dead inside the house near the front door.  Her cell phone was found by a jogger on nearby Saint Paul Church Road. It is not known yet if any valuables were stolen from her home.

Godfrey, a widow, has worked as respiratory therapist in an area hospital and is well liked by her neighbors.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to identify a person of interest in the death of Sheila Nantz Godfrey, 53, on Friday at her home at 175 Lyerly Pond Road off Faith Road.  Investigators, summoned to the home of Friday, believe Godfrey was dead since Thursday evening.

The Late Beloved Sheila Nantz Godfrey:

Godfrey’s vehicle, a white 1987 Chevrolet S10 Blazer SUV, was found at the Super Speedwash on 124 S. Avalon Drive in Salisbury.  Surveillance video shows a white male operating the vehicle Thursday night.  According to reports the man stepped into Super Speedwash briefly to toss away some trash, then walked off.  He left the Blazer on the lot.  The Blazer has since been towed.

Late in the day Friday the home of the late Sheila Nantz Godfrey was a beehive of Rowan County Sheriff’s Office activity. Yellow crime scene tape was drawn across the front area of the home.
