♦ Salisbury’s burglaries and break-ins are a daily occurrence, not only for ordinary burglars hunting for plunder they can quickly unload, but now metals men have entered the game, hunting for copper pipes, radiators, wiring, gutters–anything that can be quickly sawed and carried off to a scrap yard.
Salisbury Police sources reported Thursday that James Harvey Sauls, 57, living on Waters Road in Salisbury, was the victim of burglary–forcible entry at his recently acquired property from the Rowan County government on 1236 Old W. Innes Street. The forcible entry was reported to 911 dispatch at 10:37 a.m. It likely took place days earlier.
Entering his building, Sauls saw someone employed a saw/cutting tool to gut his building of pipes and metals. The damage was extensive–some $40,390 worth. Window damage $350, ceiling damage $15,000, interior wall damage $10,000, damage to 3 locks $40, damage to pipes $10,000, and damage to metals $5,000.
The case is under further investigation. No suspects announced at this time.

♦ Salisbury Police sources report that Felicia Allen, 35, and Michael Oliver, 41, living at 600 W. Council Street, were victims of a burglary–forcible entry at their home on Thursday. When they returned home from work Allen and Oliver were confronted by broken glass on their rear door. The burglar gained entry through the rear door and exited through the same portal. The crime was reported to 911 dispatch at 5:36 p.m. and the police soon answered the call.
Damage to rear door was $50. Stolen were a Hisense Color TV valued at $500, a Microsoft/X-Box 36 game player valued at $350, and a pocketbook valued at $200. Total value of stolen items was $1,050.
The case remains under investigation. No arrests were made at this point.
