Update: School lockdown lifted.
Update: Still on the loose at 7:30 p.m.
Update: Dixon broke into a NCDOT storage building next door to the correctional facility and stole a uniform jacket with the name “Haywood” on a patch. Dixon is charged with that crime. Authorities maintain he might be responsible for another break-in at a nearby storage facility. Nothing was removed. Authorities found a boot print matching inmate style boots worn at the Piedmont Correctional Facility. The manhunt continues.
♦Manhunt in Salisbury. Department of Public Safety, the Sheriff’s Department, and other local law enforcement are hunting of an escaped inmate from the Piedmont Correctional Institution. Area schools are on lockdown as a precaution as 27 Year old Jonathan Dixon broke out of the prison on Monday at 4 a.m.
Dixon, due for release in June 2017, is serving a maximum of 7 years for breaking and entering and several other charges. He may be headed for Pitt County, N.C. where family and friends are located.
Do not attempt to apprehend. Anyone who has seen Dixon or has knowledge of his whereabouts needs to contact local law enforcement or call the Piedmont Correctional Institution at (704) 639-7540.
