♦ The Rowan Free Press Learned Thursday afternoon from DuraFiber Technologies (formerly known as Performance Fibers) employees that the Salisbury plant on 7401 Statesville Boulevard off of Hwy 70 W. faced closing in September along with two other DuraFiber Technologies facilities in Shelby, N.C. and Winnsboro, S.C.  The closing of the Salisbury plant would mean the loss of 373 local jobs unless the company could locate a buyer by September 11th. This latest plant closing comes as a heavy blow to Rowan County and Salisbury’s shrinking economic fortunes.

Best of luck in job hunting for all the soon to be unemployed workers! Cabarrus County may offer fresh opportunities for decent paying jobs.  Check out the prospering town of Midland.

DuraFiber Technologies provided notice to the N.C. Department of Labor which is a certain marker that the Salisbury facility is closing.

DuraFiber Technologies in a company press release attributes the closing resulted from “increased labor, energy, transportation, and raw material costs along with continued market pressures have strained finances to the point no longer sustainable”.
