♦ A contributor to the supermarkets like Food Lion, Harris Teeter, and major operations like Walmart’s high overhead is pilferage and maintaining store security especially in the light of all of Salisbury’s vast sea of vagrants, petty thieves, and veteran shoplifters who scamper out of stores mainly with meat, malt liquor, and beer. Security camera videos have helped identify many chronic offenders. “How many times have we caught “Popeye”?
Salisbury Police sources reported that Norman Dale Beach, 48, a convicted felon and petty thief, dwelling at 255 Spring Oak Drive in Salisbury, was arrested Friday at his home after allegedly being identified by the Food Lion number 10’s security camera video (see video cam stills below) at 525 W. Jake Alexander Boulevard for allegedly attempting to move a shopping cart loaded with beer and non-alcoholic beverages out of the store. Friday Beach was arrested at 5:17 p.m. and charged with obtaining property by false pretense (felony).

Under a secured $1,500 bond, Beach is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center. Beach’s first hearing will be on Wednesday August 2nd.
