♦ In an area already suffering from blight, an army of vacant store fronts, a lack of foot and vehicular traffic, musical chair retailers and restaurants that open and close within a year, violent crime, vandalism, exorbitant municipal service district taxes to support a former flophouse not opened since 1963, aggressive panhandlers, triple-net leases, and a lack of parking, this past Wednesday a rash of counterfeit bill passing was reported by the Salisbury Police by three Main Street retailers: South Main Street Books at 110 S. Main Street, Critters at 125 S. Main Street, and Stichin’ Post Gifts at 104 S. Main Street.
With counterfeit money being passed in Downtown Salisbury, both shoppers and store personnel, manning cash registers, need to be able to recognize counterfeit bills. Innocent shoppers, unaware they were nicked and are passing counterfeit, can face a truckload of hassles when they undergo an investigation.
