♦ Salisbury Police and Rowan County Sheriff’s sources report that an all out gun battle occurred in the Wells-Fargo parking lot and on the 100 block of W. Fisher Street resulting in the deaths of Anthony Eugene Gill, 22, of 19 Knox Street, pronounced dead at the hospital, and a second murder victim was Dequon Robinson, 25, confirmed by his grandmother Sharon Matthews at the crime scene. Matthews lost two sons to Salisbury gang murders: Reggie Burke, 30, an unsolved 2016 murder and Rico Baker who was killed in 2008.
Several other persons were wounded as well. Multiple gunshots echoed through the Downtown area. It was reported that an argument escalated into gunfire.
A call went out to 911 dispatch at 2:13 a.m. The Salisbury Police and the Rowan County Sheriff’s deputies showed up within minutes. They were joined in the investigation by the N.C. SBI.
Two Black men and a Black woman were transported from the scene to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. A shooting victim collapsed on the corner of South Church and W. Fisher Streets by the First United Methodist Church.
Investigators secured the W. Fisher Street crime scene, set to work locating shell casings, and laid down marker cones. It was reported sometime later that a man with apparent gunshot wounds showed up at Lexington Memorial Hospital. It has not been determined yet if he was shot in Salisbury.
