♦ Today Republicans sitting on the Republican party executive committees, who live in 34th District in Davie, Iredell, and Rowan counties, will meet at 7 p.m. in Mocksville to select a replacement for former N.C. Senator Andrew Brock’s 34th District Senate Seat.
Presently Davie County Commissioner and attorney Dan Barrett and two Rowan county Republicans Chad Mitchell, a teacher and former county commissioner and attorney Bill Graham are candidates for the vacant seat. Others may announce their candidacy at tonight’s meeting at the Davie County Courthouse, 140 South Main Street in Mocksville, N.C. All of the candidates will be allowed to speak before this evening’s gathering.
Whoever wins tonight will fill out Brock’s term expiring at the end of 2018. Brock, who served as a state senator since 2005, resigned his seat in June to become a member of the state Board of Review which decides unemployment benefits appeals.
The Rowan Free Press will provide the results of the 34th District selection process within instants of the final balloting.
