♦ From about 8:30 p.m. last night until about 5:30 a.m. this morning about 30 to 40 souls and an unmarked white TV van watched and waited for the rumored takedown of the city’s iconic Confederate Veteran’s Memorial Statue on West Innes Street in Salisbury. Of course the rumored takedown never materialized. The statue remains in its heroic posture.
Carolyn Logan, Truth Advocate:
“Seriously. Is it really that important to take down a statue and cause so much turmoil when it need not be. I pay no attention to the statue. It’s been there all my life just like the grass in my yard. When I tell you I didn’t know where it was until somebody told me. That’s real talk. My problem is that the statue hasn’t killed anyone. It’s hasn’t caused anyone to overdose and have to be revived. It hasn’t broken into any houses or shot a sleeping child. It hasn’t violated my constitutional rights to freedom of speech. While people are concentrating on a statue, the city is torn to hell. Crime is at an all time high. And you all have a Mayor who has shown on video who she is. When you look at the big picture, what’s more important?”
