♦I read eye-opening articles on the Rowan Free Press discussing the Carolina Thread Trail and why it might be a great money maker for its “non-profit” CEO and assist metropolitan areas, like Gastonia, victimize hapless property owners through eminent domain. It looks more and more like its a well-organized scam. People need to do due diligence about this form of taxpayer plunder.
Even though the Rowan County Commissioners rejected the Carolina Thread Trail at a 2009 meeting and called the Carolina Thread Trail presenter to task about listing Rowan on their promotional materials, the Carolina Thread Trail persists in falsely claiming that Rowan County is part of the thread:

What counties are part of The Thread?
In North Carolina:
- Anson
- Cabarrus
- Catawba
- Cleveland
- Gaston
- Iredell
- Lincoln
- Mecklenburg
- Rowan
- Stanly
- Union
In the url provided above please note the farfetched claims made by the Carolina Thread Trail promotional materials on their website. Shall the bunko squad be summoned? Here are some of the claims:
“Support economic prosperity by attracting and retaining new employers to the area.” Business owners are going to relocate their businesses because a seldom used trail is in the area?
“Foster the joining of diverse communities.” How? Like a neighborhood of section 8 housing and government projects and a gated upscale communities?
“Aid in clean air and water preservation” Trails call for greenery and grass to be removed or mowed. Less greenery and grass–less fresh air. Water preservation? It seems the Thread Trail promoters are just name dropping to attract fringe marks.
“Promote permanent conservation of nature and wildlife habitats.” Absurd claim. Thread Trails violate nature and wildlife habitats by disturbing them and constructing trails through them. If anything it will tamper with an areas ecology, risk fires, and the buildup of trash, garbage, and human waste.
Rowan County has many existing trails and places to bike. Why fleece the taxpayer for something unneeded and mostly unused?
