♦ According to Salisbury Police Department and Rowan County Sheriff’s Office sources Matthew Shane Winters, 24, living at 250 Link Avenue in Salisbury, was arrested Thursday at 3:30 p.m. for an alleged purse snatching in the Walmart Super Center Parking Lot at 323 S. Arlington Street. It was reported that Winters was chased down by a group of publically spirited citizens after he came up behind a 63-year old woman and allegedly snatched her purse.
Hollering, the woman chased Winters around in the parking lot before she was soon joined by a group of shoppers who caught up with the badly out-of-breath Winters and encircled him. The group held him until the Salisbury Police and Rowan County Sheriff’s Office deputies showed up and arrested Winters. Winters appeared relieved when he allegedly confessed to stealing the purse.
Handcuffed and taken into custody, Winters was charged with common law robbery. Under a secure $10,000 bond, Winters is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center.
