♦ Rowan County Sheriff’s Office sources report arresting Steven Thomas Boyd, 48, of Central Avenue in Charlotte, for an alleged armed robbery at Love’s Travel Stop, 1105 Peeler Road at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday. Boyd was said have grabbed $2,000 worth of electronic gear and other assorted items including GPS devices, a home security lock, bolt cutters, a Yeti cooler, a magnetic satellite antenna, and a Samsung tablet. He allegedly threatened having a gun, but did not display one to the store employees during the robbery.
Investigators have not yet determined which items came from Love’s Travel Stop. Charges may be pending from other locales. No gun was ever found on Boyd or in his vehicle.
At 2:46 a.m. Boyd, driving a White Dodge Caravan, was stopped by deputies on 65000 I-85 South near China Grove. Boyd and his Dodge vehicle matched the description employees provided at Love’s. Boyd allegedly apologized for stealing the items, explaining he got into an argument with his girlfriend and needed to sell the items to get up money for a motel room. The report said Boyd smelled of alcohol. Currently he’s bedding down at the Rowan County Detention Center under a secured $10,000 bond.
