♦ Neighbors report one of Downtown Salisbury’s restaurant mainstays the Sweet Meadow Café at 111 N. Main street is putting its business up for sale to the right buyer.  Until the time a deal is closed, owners Heather and Scott Teeter are hoping keep the Sweat Meadow Café open.

The Sweet Meadow Café opened at its present location (The former Bernhardt Hardware building) 111 N. Main at the end of 2014.   It opened with a bang and then it appeared to struggle.  The high overhead with property taxes and the municipal services district tax to keep the Empire Hotel afloat conspired against all Downtown businesses and restaurants.  In early 2017 the Teeters felt the heat of overdue business taxes and had to start a GoFundMe campaign to keep the doors open.  Friends kicked in with $15,000 to save the Sweet Meadow, a good measure of the restaurant’s owners popularity.

Downtown business and restaurant woes grow with the uptick in property crime (break-ins especially) and the shooting deaths at the Wells Fargo Parking lot mural and area muggings and robberies.  The Sweet Meadow suffered a break-in not so long ago. People fear coming Downtown especially at night.

Best of luck to two people who really care about the Downtown Salisbury.
