Miriam Robinson, Salisbury, N.C.
♦ It is a fact that the Salisbury Police are horribly understaffed and can not provide much in the way of coverage to the city’s many badlands and tough neighborhoods. In 2013 murder skyrocketed in Salisbury. The citizens have far fewer policemen in uniform then they had at the end of 2011. Police either retired, received wrongful terminations, got fired, or got their training here and quit for far better pay elsewhere. Our police are outnumbered in their limited response to violent and property crime in Salisbury.
I was disgusted today when I learned that a pizza truck driver was badly beaten by a young thug in Salisbury.
Their police chief boasts of stepping up patrols in the dangerous West End. With what? Maybe they should send their code enforcement officer out on patrol? It appears from the visual mess the city has become he’s no longer required.
Our city is unprotected. Everyone should be raising a stink and protecting themselves as best they can.
God bless and protect Salisbury.
