Truck jacking and truck theft appear to be growing pastimes in Salisbury. Some of it can be attributed to I-85 crime tourism, yet a large portion of the vehicle crime is done by locally grown talent.
According to Salisbury Police sources the U-Haul Neighborhood Rental lot at 1624 Stokes Ferry Road, Salisbury, N.C. was the victim of “motor vehicle theft-truck” when a suspect climbed into U-Haul Ford Econoline 2-door van and cruised off the lot on Tuesday. The U-Haul van’s assessed value $25,000. The crime was reported to 911 Dispatch at 10:30 a.m. and brought officers to the Stokes Ferry Road address. A U-Haul van is easy enough to spot, however it may have gone to a chop shop or traveled already to some distant state. Or it might be used in the commission of a crime such as a large scale “all-you-take” burglary.
