♦Rev. Whayne Hougland, the popular Episcopalian rector at Saint Luke’s in Salisbury and the spiritual godfather of TV pilot ”Sleepy Hollow”, just became the Bishop of Western Michigan via a victory over Jennifer Adams on the 8th round of balloting. Whayne received 34 clergy votes and 87 laity votes in the final tally. Jennifer Adams finished with 31 clergy votes and 52 laity votes. A sad loss for Salisbury and for St. Luke’s. Whayne’s loss raises the question: how do you record the “call to bishophood” in the annals of Salisbury’s urban flight? A higher calling we suppose.
