♦ Back in the 70′s when I was living in Philadelphia I recall being intrigued by the sudden emergence of Soul City, N.C. near Manson N.C. For most of the 70′s I read newspapers and news magazines as well as watched TV investigative journalism about the creation of the 31 million dollar sideshow called “Soul City” and its initial business Soul Tech 1. The utopian vision failed at first and gradually self-corrected to a small degree. It never attained anywhere near the stature planned for it, yet it exists today. Perhaps Salisbury and its “redevelopment” schemes can learn a lesson from Soul City,
