♦ It won’t be long before the little gypsy caravans start hightailing it out of the Bury in search of a better tomorrow. Anybody who saw that article about RST’s Monster 100 Gigabyte Fiber Optic Network Showing Up in N.C. knows Salisbury and its debacle Fibrant is a charred goose. I don’t even think Salisbury can unload Fibrant for nickels on the dollar anymore. Start counting heads leaving at Salisbury’s city limits. Game over for Downtown Salisbury ONLY.
What’s so ugly about this story is that everybody and their uncle told Salisbury that doing Fibrant was suicidal. It was only a matter of time before bigger and badder technological breakthroughs came zooming down the road. That day is here. Fibrant never became competitive. Now its become a hopeless and worthless non entity overnight.
Salisbury is finito. A victim of its own greed. With all its poverty, lousy public education, crime, drugs, and people out of work, Salisbury can’t carry the weight of Fibrant anymore or even think of attracting people or business here. The perfect storm of their own creation is collecting on the Bury as we speak.
