♦ As a member of the Rowan County Planning Board I would like to share some facts about the recent changes proposed to the County Commissioners about Concealed Carry on County property.
First please understand that these changes only apply to duly licensed citizens that have passed a course and background check as set forth by our State Government. I am a gun owner and have shot competitively in the past. I have chosen not to obtain a conceal carry license. This is my personal choice; however I will defend anyones’ Second Amendment rights. I believe that the pendulum is finally swinging back in the right direction by allowing our law abiding citizens to protect their families and themselves from those that have no concern for our laws. The hysteria about guns and legal gun ownership needs to change.
We at the Rowan County Planning Board have consulted with our County Sheriff as well as licensed Concealed Carry Instructors and have determined that complying with the new laws which allow Concealed Carry on County property is in the best interest of our county residents. This means that if you have done the right thing and have acquired the training and background check to legally carry a Concealed hand gun you are welcome on County property. That means County Parks, Buildings and Libraries. County Justice System Buildings such as the Court House, and County Schools would still be no carry areas.
I hope our County Commissioners will take our recommendations and bring Rowan County into compliance with our new State laws; and open up our County property to law abiding Citizens who choose to conceal carry.
