♦ The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education will request a special meeting with the Rowan County Commissioners on Monday at 2 p.m. to review and discuss a proposal regarding funds for the school system’s capital needs.
According to school system sources, the school system didn’t obtain the correct commission documents until this morning. The commissioner’s initial returned documents did not possess all of the commissioner’s requested changes. Due to this challenge the school board’s attorney required clarification on the documents.
This new document had several changes from the previous version the Board of Education sent to the commissioners. After discussion of each change in the commissioners counter proposal, a few changes were made, and the modified document was returned to the commissioners for their review and approval.
The board plans to asked the commissioners for one more joint meeting on Monday to discuss, and hopefully approve, these changes. If the document is approved, both chairs could sign the new document at that time and finally put the issue to rest.
Josh Wagner added this clarification: “For clarification, Jim, Carolyn, Jay Dees, and Leslie signed the wrong proposal. They signed and returned our initial proposal without the changes they voted on Mon. Myself, and the my board, were baffled. Realizing the mistake, we choose to review their intended resolution rather than the signed version. I for one did not want their mistake to taint the process moving forward. I believe we did the right thing.”
