♦I’m hearing a lot about pay raises for County and City employees. Has it not occurred to anyone that in times of a drowning economy that when taxes are increased to give pay raises to public employees, the money is coming out of my pocket and going into someone else’s pocket without me receiving any additional benefit from the distribution of my wealth (please understand that I am not personalizing my and me.)
On the other hand, if pay increases can be provided by draining program waste without detriment to needed programs and to those who are already heavily taxed, I do not resent modest increases for public servants. However, if pay raises, bonuses or large pay supplements are handed out in time of economic distress and the citizenry doesn’t speak out, then they forfeit the right to demand that County, city, or state governments give more to our essential government fed programs or to chastise these programs, including the school system, for perceived short comings unless they support tax increase remedies.
You can’t have all you want.
