♦ The Rowan Free Press learned today that Rowan County Manager Gary Page announced his retirement effective August 31st, 2014. The highly regarded manager, according to sources in the Rowan County government, will be replaced by Leslie Heidrich who presently serves as the assistant County Manager.
Vice-Chairman Craig Pierce confirmed the retirement date, telling us: “Gary does an outstanding job for Rowan County. The county will miss Gary. We expect Leslie to come in and do an excellent job too. Her performance with financials and numbers is phenomenal.”
“The County Manager is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Rowan County Board of Commissioners.
The County Manager’s duties include overseeing all County departments, representing the County in dealings with other governmental units and agencies, and overseeing programs and operations pursuant to the policies, ordinances and directives adopted by the Board of County Commissioners. The County Manager is also responsible for preparing and recommending an annual County budget and providing all other management services necessary to assure the efficient and effective operation of County government.” Rowan County website
