♦ According to Newton Street residents Spencer Police and Sheriff’s Department vehicles were dispatched to North Rowan High School in Spencer, N.C. at 2:30 p.m. Friday to quell a riot in the school’s parking lot. The crowd was estimated of between 100 to 125. Sporadic fighting broke out between various groups of students before the crowds were finally dispersed 10 minutes later.
According the neighbor W.F. Owens: ” Groups Males were fighting off and on until the Spencer Police and Sheriff’s Department showed up. From where I watched about six law enforcement officers were on the scene and started breaking up the crowds. Mostly it looked like students involved. It was a mess. I didn’t see any arrests being made. There’s plenty of fights here, but this was a large one.”
