♦ At one time historic renovators tried their hand at gentrifying Salisbury’s tough Park Avenue tenderloin, but it didn’t fair so well. Renovator’s trucks were broken into and scrappers stole pipes, metal gutters, wiring, and newly hung doors from renovated properties.  Renovators, who stayed too long after dark, sometimes were robbed when they stepped out to their trucks.  On the 600 block of Park Avenue numerous robberies and muggings have taken place.  Men and women, high on laced heroin have become miscellaneous bodies found in the “Park that Time Forgot”.

According to Salisbury Police sources Joseph Leonard Rogers, 53, of the “streets of Salisbury”, became the victim of a “robbery-strong arm no weapon” and an “assault-simple physical” on Tuesday evening when someone he was acquainted with, punched and kicked him during a robbery near 611 Park Avenue.  It is not known at this time if gave up anything of value to the robber.  Rogers sustained minor injuries. The crime was reported to 911 Dispatch at 7:37 p.m. and brought officers to the area.

Spectrum Residential Packs a 200 Mbps Internet Wallop for $29. The Second Largest Internet Provider in the U.S. Doesn’t Lose Markets

$

RFP Staff

♦ By far the leading internet provider in Rowan County and in Salisbury is Spectrum. It’s speed, bandwidth, and extremely competitive prices decimate pretenders like the late Fibrant who made wild claims about turning the corner and making a small profit when they were losing $3 Million a year, never sold or had 10 gigabit internet capability, and more recently it was revealed they had no internet redundancy (back-up). These kinds ruses are typical of the City of Salisbury government who makes wild claims about cutting violent crime and burglaries and about their “vibrant” Downtown area. No wonder folks call Salisbury “The City of Make believe” or “The City of Smoke and Mirrors.”

Hotwire Communications will be a walk in the park for the internet mega-giant Spectrum. At least the Fibrant name will disappear. Seriously does anyone out there see Hotwire Communications making any profit whatsoever in a saturated field that includes not only Spectrum, but AT&T, DISH TV (an outstanding TV provider), DirecTV, and the fact that now almost 60% of TV watchers have cut the cord and use Omni-directional antennas, rabbit ears, internet enabled devices like ROKU, Fire TV, Chromecast, and Apple TV to do their viewing. How many folks use only their smartphones to get on the internet? And within the next 2 years 5 Gig Wireless Home Internet will show up. Wireline internet may be a vanishing breed. Telephones? Many people use their smartphones or VOIP phones over the internet where super cheap MagicJack Go is the national leader. Does anyone believe Hotwire can make a profit in this crowded field? Not happening. Spectrum is already tearing out Fibrant’s lungs and stomach and dropping it on a hotplate.

Spectrum had a recent internet speed upgrade at no additional cost to all its customers in Rowan County and Salisbury, N.C. The recent customer base speed is 200 Mbps down. Spectrum tech support had to adjust your modem and WIFI to assure you are getting the 200 Mbps. A Spectrum customer and friend of ours sent us an announcement and screen shot of his speed test. He got an upgrade of his WIFI router firmware.

Salisbury: Crime Visits the Rowan County Public Library on W. Fisher Street Wednesday. Man Rips Off 2 Books and Speeds Away in Car

♦ Few people realize it but most public libraries suffer a fair amount of books being purloined or simply never returned.  Most of the later is human carelessness–especially youngsters.  Generally when crime visits the Rowan County Library HQ on Fisher Street it mostly occurs in the rear parking lot where vehicles get broken into or there’s a purse snatching or strong arm robbery on either the W. Bank Street or the S. Jackson Street sides. Thieves know women carry purses into the rear library entrance. On rare occasions crime occurs on the library’s second floor when someone with mental health challenges flares up with another homeless person by the computers. This occurred back in 2016:

According to Salisbury Police sources The Rowan County Library HQ at 201 W. Fisher Street was the victim of a “larceny-shop lifting” at around noon this past Wednesday when a Black male wearing a Seattle jacket and carrying a red book bag, suddenly bolted out the library’s front door with 2 stolen books valued at $59 and sped away in a car parked on W. Fisher Street.  It is reported the man earlier inquired about the location of books about true crime and astronomy.  Minutes after the inquiry, the thief was seen headed out the front door when a library employee reminded him he needed to check the books out at the desk.  Right away the book thief made his bid out the door.

Why Keeping Salisbury’s Off the Charts Violent and Property Crime, Awful Public Schools, Lack of Decent Jobs, and Such a Secret is Harmful

$

RFP Staff

♦ Anyone forced to remain in Salisbury because they haven’t been able to unload their house due to the enormous volume of houses on the market knows what’s up.  They are not fooled by real estate hucksters, city council members, law enforcement officials with a self-protective penchant for fudging stats, shrinking print newspapers with Downtown real estate holdings, and others who stand to gain from hiding the beef.

• Hiding off the charts violent crime puts people in danger when they go to many areas of the Salisbury where the odds are high that violence is likely to happen day or night.

• Covering up burglaries, break-ins, and vehicular break-ins puts someone at risk for encountering those crimes when they buy or rent homes or start businesses in areas of the city where the risk is high.

• Glossing over or telling parents that the city’s four public schools offer “extraordinary” education when the schools clearly received 3 Ds and an F would put students into extremely poor academic environments.

• Keeping silent about the city’s lack of quality jobs and industry with decent pay will waste someone’s time in renting or buying a home here.

• Staying silent about Salisbury’s very visible unequal distribution of sidewalks, solid waste pickups, road repairs, and police vehicles showing up in a timely manner or at all when called.  Many neighborhoods are clearly “have nots”.  Take a ride around and see what’s up.

• Keeping mum about the lack of people coming to Salisbury’s ghostly Downtown area with its lack of draws and multitude of vacant storefronts with brown papered windows fraudulently lures greenhorns into leasing buildings with enormous overheads and paying a municipal services district tax making success prohibitive.  Businesses who lease some Downtown buildings often go belly up in less than 6 months to a year of struggling from day one.

Hiding the above dysfunctional elements is clearly a form of fraud and leads to a perpetuation of those unfixed challenges.  Salisbury’s death rattle occurred several years ago.

In the public interest in strange and aberrant crime we our reaching back to Saturday May 5th when an alleged crime took place at the usually quiet and serene East Winds Apartments at 920 N. Boundary Street in East Spencer N.C.

According to Rowan County Sheriff’s Office sources and residents of the East Winds Apartments the bucolic serenity at the complex was suddenly shattered and the complex’s parking lot entered the RFP’s annals of oddball crime.  Rebecca Leigh Staley, 40, a visual artist and resident of the East Winds, was reportedly clad only in panties allegedly bolted out into the parking lot around 9 a.m. screaming profanities and began assaulting a vehicle with a hammer and a large “sex toy”.  Shocked neighbors described her as allegedly “possessed”.  The hammering and strange caterwauling echoed throughout apartment buildings.  Neighbors watched from their windows.

Someone called 911 Dispatch and an E. Spencer patrol car soon pulled into the lot.  Staley allegedly shifted her attention to the officer and began to assault him.  Quickly the officer overpowered her, placed her in handcuffs, and took her into custody being careful not to be bitten.  Within the hour she would be held at the Rowan County Detention Center charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, and injury to personal property.  Under a secured $4,000 bond, Staley will have a hearing on June 26th.

No motives for the behavior have been provided.

Salisbury: Chief Jerry Stokes’s Car and Porch Gets Ripped Off Again This Weekend on West Thomas Street. American Flag Stolen!

♦ “Please be aware and on the look out, we’ve have had multiple items stolen from our car and porch. Nothing of great value, but all the same things we purchased with our hard earned money including our American flag. Not sure if our house is being targeted specifically, but want our neighbors to be aware.” Zoe Stokes, Chief Jerry Stokes wife posting on a Salisbury neighborhood Crime blog on Sunday May 13th.

According to Salisbury Police sources and Zoe Stokes, the wife of the current chief of the Salisbury Police Jerry Stokes, thieves struck the Stokes’ residence at 230 W. Thomas Street and car sometime between Saturday and Sunday morning. Unspecified items were stolen from his car and from his porch including a beautiful American Flag that neighbors admired and apparently some thief coveted. 230 W. Thomas Street is in a high crime area where anything not nailed down is subject to being stolen by the city’s hordes of “transient street people”.

As for the house and car being specifically targeted our Staff believes that is unlikely. These types of car break-ins and “porch snatches” are usually the handiwork of a hit n’ quit thieves who will likely trade their “take” on the street for some heroin or “crack”. House break-ins are more likely to be the product of targeting. Example: A burglar gets wind of a gun collection in the Stokes’ residence or a Clutter Family style buried treasure map (Perhaps you read “In Cold Blood by Truman Capote) or jewelry.

♦ Rowan County Sheriff’s Office sources report that Martin Franklin Efird, 38, of Mitchell Street in E. The crime reported to 911 Dispatch at 6:15 a.m. by Tracy Lawrence Maynor, 47, who lives there.

After this initial arrest Efird and Taylor were linked with an alleged crime wave encompassing vehicles, homes, storage buildings, and businesses in Salisbury, Granite Quarry, and Rockwell that spanned from April 25th to May 11th. The focus was on power tools–a multitude of them. There were some 18 break-ins reported, but that list may grow.

♦ According to Salisbury Police sources David Sanchez Herron, 40, of the streets of Salisbury, was arrested early Thursday at 7:54 a.m. on foot near E. Cemetery and N. Shaver Streets after being identified by Salisbury Police investigators from a McDonald’s security camera video.  Herron was sought for an armed robbery of the McDonald’s at 704 E. Innes Street where he passed a note to a McDonald’s employee stating: “Give me Money or I’ll shoot.  Wait 5 minutes before you call the police.”

Although Herron never displayed a gun, the threat of shooting is good enough to get someone a felony “robbery with firearms or other dangerous weapons” in North Carolina.  A McDonald’s employee handed Herron $35 in cash and the alleged robber headed out the door.  No injuries were reported.  The crime was reported Wednesday night to 911 Dispatch at 11:32 p.m. and soon Salisbury Police vehicles poured into the McDonald’s lot.

Wednesday was a very busy day for Herron who allegedly was banned from the Speedway Convenience Store at 500 E. Innes Street for a larceny (misdemeanor).

Under a secured $75,000 bond, Herron is being held in the Rowan County Detention Center.
