♦ Salisbury Police arrested Brian Harold Cooper, 49, of the 100 block of Jack Street in Granite Quarry, Tuesday evening for allegedly sexually assaulting a real estate agent showing a home. Mr. Copper was charged with attempted rape and two counts of attempted first degree sexual offense. The victim’s name was not released. Mr. Cooper is currently being held at the Rowan County Detention center under a million dollar bond.
Police were summoned to Century 21 Towne and Country offices on West Jake Alexander Boulevard Tuesday where they learned the victim was contacted by Cooper the day previously about buying a house. Cooper met the agent at the office at 10 a.m. then drove off with her to a home in the 1600 block of Secret Garden Court. Inside the house, Cooper choked the victim and held a knife to her, warning her he would kill her if she did not do what he ordered. Cooper then allegedly sexually assaulted the agent. When he finished, he told her to take him to another house he made an appointment to see.
The agent requested to call her office because they might think something was wrong if she didn’t. She was warned once more not to tell anyone. The victim called her office, telling them to get information on a house in Granite Quarry that Cooper was scheduled to visit. The victim gave a code word agents use to signal they are in distress.
According to police sources the agent and Cooper proceeded to the Granite Quarry house where Cooper allegedly pulled a knife and started to assault her. Within minutes a co-worker arrived, not knowing the victim’s predicament. Right away the victim left and called 911 while Cooper drove with the other agent back to the office.
