♦ Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Gary Wayne Baldwin, 63, of Salisbury, N.C. with the rape of a 5 year old girl on Wednesday. Mr. Baldwin, of the 1900 block of Providence Church Road, is charged with felony first-degree rape and felony indecent liberties with a child. Baldwin was issued a $25,00 secured bond and was released from the Rowan County Detention Center.
The youngster was known to Baldwin and the incident allegedly occurred Monday at Baldwin’s residence. According to law enforcement sources the victim’s mother contacted authorities. Mr. Baldwin was scheduled for his initial court appearance on Thursday.
Mr. Baldwin has a prior record, being convicted of a misdemeanor assault on a police officer in 1992. He received probation.
