The Firemens’ Names Were Removed Due to Upper Management’s History of Reprisals
♦ Currently the Salisbury Fire Department is losing trained fire fighters at an alarming rate. This is occurring for two reasons. The first reason is retirements and the second is poor leadership in the fire department. We are short six Captains at the present time. Our Captains are vital to the success of a fire company because they are in charge of leading our fire trucks and their crews. Being short six Captains means that other personnel have to be moved from their position and are required to fill in as the Captain on the truck often without pay. The Fire Department is also utilizing part-time employees to staff trucks for full-time employees which is a situation the Fire Chief said we would never be in.
The Fire Department budget will suffer a 10% reduction during the 2014-2015 fiscal year. How will this affect your safety? It is simple, the less money that the Fire Department has, the lower the level of protection it is able to provide you with. To think that we can continue to provide the citizens with the highest level of service and meet all their needs with less money is foolish. The citizens of Salisbury need to know that your fire fighters need your help. We need you to get involved with City Council meetings and demand that they stop placing you and your family in serious danger.
Like the Salisbury Police Department and other city departments vitally required for our citizens safety, we are all woefully understaffed to the point of being below minimum standards. The city has kept the public in the dark about its monumental financial predicament. Please come out and support all of those who put their lives on the line 24 hours a day.
