♦ Friday night, three men and a woman from Lexington, N.C., rode their Dodge pickup into Salisbury looking for some good times down on Brick Street and got told to beat it by a Bench Warmer’s bouncer because they didn’t measure up to the dress code. That didn’t set well with the Lexington fellows, and they came back to settle the score over matters of dress.
Leaving their female friend behind, the trio returned to assault the bouncer, punching him to the floor where they kicked him. The assault was soon broken up by Benchwarmer’s employees.
The bouncer sustained injuries according to police sources.
A short time later, the three men from Lexington were pulled over in their pickup on Salisbury’s Square and charged with simple assault. Knotts, Cooper and Chafin each were issued a $1,000 secured bond and were later released from the Rowan County Detention Center.
Cooper was convicted of misdemeanor breaking and entering and misdemeanor first-degree trespassing in October 2005. Last year, he was convicted of misdemeanor larceny in Davidson County and is currently on probation. Later in June he is slated to return to court in Davidson County for charges of misdemeanor drug possession.
Knotts is expected in court in Randolph County in June regarding a traffic infraction.
