Crime in Salisbury and the City’s Dimming Response to It

♦ Let’s consider crime in Salisbury with an eye toward the coming summer and fall.  We best examine the facts often brushed aside by our city government.  Some very sobering facts.

Over the last year Methamphetamine crossed from the county to the Salisbury gang culture. Criminals amped up on meth do far more daring and viscous crimes. Meth addicted criminals are more prone to daylight home invasions where rapes and the senseless killings are involved.  In turf wars with rivals under the extremes of meth and paranoia, criminals are more liable to participate in extraordinary vengeance behavior like burning down a rival’s house and turning their heads to mush with a baseball bat.  Meth fuels extreme viciousness in persons already lacking empathy and self-control.

According to law enforcement sources, the Salisbury Police Department is badly understaffed. It’s said only 65 actual police exist and few of them can go out on patrol. Currently the city participates in “shows of force” in the West End or may make “showcase appearances” in joint sting operations with other area law enforcement agencies. Looks good–but whole areas of the city are left unprotected. There’s not enough officers.

Like sewer rats adapting quickly to their environment and locating a juicy chicken wing under the sink when the lights go out, the criminals in Salisbury are coming to realize the city provides many tempting and unprotected targets.
