♦ Salisbury, N.C. moves further and further to the rear of cities about to offer gigabyte internet services which include Charlotte, Winston-Salem, Huntersville, Raleigh, Carey, Durham, Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Greensboro, Asheville, Gastonia, and others. Salisbury, a virtual warzone of crime, 28% soaring poverty, subpar schools, retail leakage, unresponsive government, gangs and drugs, extreme downtown taxes, and quickening urban flight, offers little to attract either business or high-tech entrapaneurs. Now a worse case scenario is developing overnight: by 2015 Salisbury will be smoked by far more livable gig cities with Gig services. All Salisbury can offer is a failing fiber optic system guzzling off Rowan County water and sewer utilities. Heaven forbid Fibrant gets capped by AT&T U-Verse moving into the Charlotte region and maybe rolling out here. Time Warner Cable is now eyeballing a gig to keep up with the Joneses. RST Fiber, with their dark Fiber 100 gigs and WIFI Gig to the home, is planning to speed up more cities in North Carolina in the next two years. It’s conceivable Fibrant could come in a distant 20th place in the next 2-3 years.
