♦ The Chamber Think Tank on The Impact of Racial Oppression, Privilege, and Post Racial Liberalism held on Sunday, June 22nd at the Blue Bay Restaurant on East Innes in Salisbury, N.C. The stimulating focus was on racism and was facilitated by Chamber members Anthony Smith and Russell Swilley. Racism is a chronic visitor to the national news and frequently impacts on many persons personal and professional lives. Racism’s existence and its impact is often determined by what lens you view it through. Our level of privilege will frequently skew how its viewed. Some individuals share the common misperception that because we have a Black President and people have made great strides, racism no longer exists. Our rights continue to be trampled upon, and recent court decisions with Affirmative Action and Voting rights were impacted. Some persons have learned to internalize racism and cope effectively while others suffer in silence and fall victim to its effects.
