♦ The Rowan Free Press contacted Malcolm “Mac” Butner, a Salisbury Realtor at 4:20 p.m. today and he told us he had not sent in an official letter of resignation to the Board of County Commissioners and he would fight any attempt to remove him from his board chairmanship of the Rowan County Housing Authority Board.
Mr. Butner informed us that in all his years as realtor and on the Rowan County Housing Board he has never practiced any form of racial discrimination.
Last night the Rowan Free Press heard from a source within the Rowan County Commission that Mr. Butner was resigning amid the growing controversy surrounding alleged inappropriate racial remarks posted on Facebook.
Mr. Butner told us he personally did not receive the complaint concerning racial discrimination filed with the Greensboro Field Office of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He said other members of the board did.
