♦ The City-owned pocket park at 11th and North Main, a former gas station site, transforms into a lush savannah of Johnson grass and milkweed. The ex-city manager permitted the property’s former owners to “donate” it to Salisbury. The city paid for the clean-up costs with matching funds from our state’s “free money” trough.
Who knows the future of this former gas station–perhaps it might become a chip in some future swap? Or land for the city’s next visionary Taj Mahal. Anything goes in Salisbury. No one can foresee when a virtually worthless piece of property may catapult into front page news.
Seen pictured above is a covered bus stop and a trash can. In the gutter nearby are two spent needles.
Salisbury, N.C. is a small city with big urban decay. One never knows when the city’s finances will become junk-bond ready or a seedy piece of property is highly sought. (The former gas station pictured below)
