♦ Yesterday at the county commission meeting after a brief closed-session, commissioner Chad Mitchell made a motion requesting that County Manager Gary Page meet with officials from the Rowan County Housing Authority and HUD to investigate Mac Butner’s alleged inflammatory Facebook postings. Mitchell stated the investigation report needs to be completed by no later than August 4th when the next Rowan County Commission meeting takes place. After learning the results of investigation the county commissioners will move forward with a formal action.
Vice-Chairman Pierce and others on the commission do not condone Mr. Butner’s behavior on Facebook and would prefer he resign his Chairman’s position on the Rowan County Housing Board. Mr. Butner’s Chairman’s position is set to expire in September. The county commissioners have no intention of reappointing Mr. Butner to the board.
Mr. Butner stated to the Rowan Free Press over a week ago he has no intention of resigning and that he intends to fight any attempt at ousting him.
The Greensboro Field Office of HUD received a racial discrimination complaint concerning Mr. Butner’s Facebook posts. Yesterday NAACP President Scott Teamer addressed the commissioners during public commentary along with NAACP activist William Peeples. Both men desired the county commissioners to take action.
