♦ Let me see if I understand the arguments against Concealed Carry in County Parks & Buildings.
A group of county department heads asked, “What if an irate parent came to social services with a handgun? Or a recently terminated employee, with concealed-carry, showed up angry?”
Is that the strongest argument offered? Let me answer with my own questions.
A. Why worry now? What prevents the same situation under the current policies?
Answer – Nothing
Today a ticked off parent or a disgruntled employee could walk into virtually any county building and start firing.
B. Have you been to the Post Office lately? Where are the metal detectors and security guards? They are not there and this is a NO WEAPONS ALLOWED area. It seems the government which prints money faster than Obama goes on vacation can not afford to man the doors and install metal detector devices.
C. So you like appearing in your own XXX peep show for strangers? Bare with me for a moment. (pun intended)
Efforts to protect our airports have led to full body scanners. These scanners came about because metal detectors have been found to be ineffective in finding modern day ceramic knives, polymer platform firearms and explosive devices. Will you also demand anyone carrying a liquid to pour it out? Will I now be forced to remove my shoes for inspection?
What will prevent someone from walking into our DHS building with an undetectable device?
Have you looked at the studies which show how poorly the airport security is when they are tested with weapons violations?
D. COST? To accomplish the desired “safety” each county facility will be forced to use a single access point. This will need to be guarded by at least 2 employees. In order to allow for sick leave and vacations you will be forced to hire 4 or more people for each building. How much do you plan on paying each Barney Fife wannabe? $20,000, $30,000? More? Someone please do the math and figure out how many buildings need guards? 10? 15? More? We are talking about some serious cash.
Anyone priced a doorway metal detector lately?
I could continue but I need to get ready to go to work at a county facility. I am comfortable in knowing I am forced to be totally unarmed and defenseless against unstable customers and disgruntled, “mutually terminated” employees.
